FotoInsight's New Photo Paper Book Makes Book Bulge Disappear

catapa's picture

Submitted by catapa on Wed, 2009-08-19 17:29.

Cambridge, 20 August 2009. - Europe's most popular photo book software is now also available for Linux and Mac OS. Against an ever growing number of photo book services, FotoInsight is increasing its technological lead with the introduction of version 4.5 of FotoInsight Designer. The application is available as a free download on the photo service's website and it can create a 130 page photo book lay-out in under three minutes. The new release of the order software adds photo albums processed on thick, lustre finish photographic paper pages. The new photo paper album styles ranging from 26 to 82 pages (in steps of eight pages) are only available in the FotoInsight Designer software.

In FotoInsight's new Photo Paper Album each page lays flat

FotoInsight states that the book bulge in the new photo paper albums disappear, as the pages lay flat when the book is opened 180 degrees wide. A new binding process is being used for the album pages, which are thicker than pages in CEWE Photobooks. This allows the pages in an open photo paper album to lay flat, rather than bowing or arching up towards the spine. Flat pages make it easier to view images which spread across a double page. FotoInsight's Managing Director Klaas Brumann states: "The new printed photo album's thicker pages provide a premium feel over traditional coffee table style photo books. We expect the new photographic paper books to be popular with professional users and for wedding photo books!

Paris. 24 juillet 2009.

Cambridge. 23 July 2009. - When the start of a new school year approaches, the school bag needs filling. The online photo printer FotoInsight from Cambridge offers a new service to individualise such items. The idea is to personally engage the youngsters with their school supplies, to ensure that they will look after them. In addition, own pictures of a pet, a group of friends or from the holidays keep positive memories alive. An aluminium water flask with a personal photograph is less likely to be kicked in-lieu of a football. The school bag will be treated with due care if the the own image has been printed onto it. FotoInsight now prints digital photographs onto practical items like spiral note pads, money boxes or fluffy key rings.

lexican 3: The Software for Knowledge Workers

Easy to use authoring tool to collect, store, organize and publish information.

London. 23 June 2009. - vetafab Software is releasing a new version of it's Windows application lexiCan. According to the developer, the upgrade improves productivity and collaboration. Individuals and teams use lexiCan to manage information and knowledge for projects, in business management, research and idea gathering. The developer is also introducing a new read only client lexiCan Reader, which allows users to publish content such as guides, manuals, references, support data bases, knowledge bases within a network with one click, making publishing as easy as editing. The software remains simple, no special training is required.

Similar to a personal Wikipedia, lexiCan allows users to build articles using texts, pictures, tables, links to websites and files. Using the title as a reference, articles can be accessed in seconds even in voluminous collections, overcoming the daily burden of clicking through folder hierarchies as done in Windows Explorer. Unlike Wikipedia, lexiCan purely works as a desktop application based on Microsoft .NET framework, enabling user convenience, such as setting links per drag and drop or dropping emails from Outlook into a description. lexiCan features full text search that includes embedded files. The developer points at several other intuitive retrieval features, like an automated view on pictures, embedded files and tags. Articles can have multiple tags which lexiCan displays as a list or clout. The article tree can be structured in the application's Outline section.

Wanted - Celebrities who care about Orphans and the Environment

Submitted by Bob Miller on Thu, 2007-12-27 20:39.

The project, Ethanol & Orphans, is looking for celebrities who think it is a good idea and who will endorse the project.  The project sponsor is the not-for-profit charity, Our Family Orphan Communities, Inc.

The Ethanol & Orphans project is currently underway in Vietnam where we will be building a cellulose ethanol refinery and using the profits to build:
 - a Self-sustaining, high-tech, green Community for street orphans where they will be raised in families with surrogate parents and grandparents, given care, skills (job, computer, familiy/life) and supplemental education.
 - a Medical clinic supported by the profits from the refinery so those who cannot afford it can still receive treatment.
 - more care for disabled children (who are still today being born with birth defects from Agent Orange which was used in the war in the 60's and 70's) so they can learn to be self-sufficient even with disabilities.

We are looking for people who care about:
 - improving the environment
 - using less petrochemical fuels
 - helping developing / third world countries to improve
 - street children living barely surviving
 - disabled children who need assistance
 - providing medical/dental care for those who cannot afford it
 - protecting food sources (we will use sugarcane for the refiery, NOT grains)
 - providing education for children, the future leaders of their country
 - and more humanitarian projects

The celebrities will be asked to speak about our project when they can, and to allow us to use thier comments/picture/name in our website and promotion materials.

For complete details about the project, see: http://www.orphancommunities.org
For questions, write to us at: info@orphancommunities.org

Vietnam Vice President honors Ethanol & Disabled Children/Orphans Project

Bob Miller's picture

Submitted by Bob Miller on Fri, 2007-12-14 04:36.
Report from Executive Director of Our Family Orphan Communities, Inc, on progress with Vietnam Ethanol & Orphans/Disabled Children Project

I have just returned from a trip to Vietnam to see the progress of our project with our partners, the Vietnam Aid Society for Disabled Children (VASDC) and am pleased to be able to report the progress that has been made.

For the last year, our team leader, Mr. Ngon, has been holding meetings with government ministries, officials, private organizations and supporters and has kept things going.

In this photo, he is seen with the President of Vietnam, Nguyen Minh Triet.

While in business, it is rare that itineraries ever go exactly as planned, Mr. Ngon's flexibility and tenacity got us to the people we needed to see and the support that we need to proceed.

A key meeting on this trip was being received by Vice President of Vietnam, Nguyen Thi Doan.

It was wonderful to hear her comments, compliments and support for this project.

Within 4 hours of our meeting, it was on the national television news and the next day in the newspapers. Since then we have already been receiving emails and inquiries from people in other countries as the internet propagates the story.

The public presentation of this project speaks to the commitment that people have to make it happen.

Last year I leaned that the former Vice President of Vietnam, Truong My Hoa, was very involved with VASDC and its activities to help the disabled children.

This trip, in a meeting with Professor Thu, the head of VASDC (and teacher of doctors of acupuncture in several countries), staff of VASDC/HSC and supporters,  I also had the honor to meet with Madame Hoa to talk about the project. She also continues to provide support to ensure this project becomes a reality.

You may recall that in our photos from last year, Mr. Ngon not only had an audience with the President of Vietnam to talk about the project, but he also was able to get a letter from the Prime Minister's office showing us their support and how to move forward with the project.

With this kind of top-down support, it is not a matter of if this project will succeed, it is just a matter of when.

Not only do we have the political support, we have a commitment to provide the land from Ninh Binh Province.

Visiting this historic site of the first capital of Vietnam after they became independent is awe inspiring,

With the province kindly providing a guide we were able to appreciate the significance of this place.

Our day included meeting province officials, bankers, planners and going to visit the potential site where the refinery can be located.

All of the preparation has been done and the potential site offered, it is now time to move forward.

The next step is to do the on-site design, engineering, environmental, marketing and feasibility studies.

The output of this 3 to 4 month step will be a Bankable Feasibility Study with all the details needed to obtain the licenses and permits required by the investment law of Vietnam. It will also aid us in obtaining the funding needed for the construction.

Funding is needed now to do this step. Our partner organizations in Vietnam, VASDC/HSC, are looking into various alternatives to obtain the funds. Our goal at this time is to obtain $10 million dollars which will allow us to keep moving forward.  We are asking for donations (and loans of collateral), not only from the Vietnamese Community, but from all individuals and organizations that think this is a
worthwhile project.

Your donation will help us to provide:
 - over 500 jobs
 - homes and families for street orphans
 - care for children still being born with birth defects due to agent orange
 - free medical care to local citizens
 - job and computer skills
 - cleaner environment
 - economic stimulus
 - renewable fuel
 - and much more.

You will do this by helping us build a cellulose Ethanol Refinery from which the profits will build a Medical Clinic, Self-sustaining, high-tech Community where orphans are raised in families, provide care and training for disabled children and full scholarships for qualified children. Details are on our website at: www.orphancommunities.org
Donations can be on-line at our website or mailed to our tax-exempt, not-for-profit charity at:
Vietnam Ethanol & Disabled Children/Orphans Project,
Our Family Orphan Communities, Inc. P O Box 906 Alamosa, CO 81101-0906

(Make checks payable to Our Family Orphan Communities, Inc.)
Feel free to check our not-for-profit charity status with the Colorado Secretary of State.
We will provide a tax receipt for all donations.
Feel free to contact us with any questions at: info@orphancommunities.org

We are excited about the progress to date and are looking forward to the ground-breaking in 2008.

And, one more thank you to the Southeast Asia, South Asia &
South Pacific
Department of the External Relations Commission, C.C. CPVn for providing a translator for all of our meetings during this trip. Nguyen Anh Nguyet (Moon) was a wonderful asset to ensure complete understanding in all of our meetings. Thanks Moon for all your help (and tips on protocol)!

Thank you all for your ongoing support for Our Family Orphan Communities, Inc. our partners and our projects.

Tearing down the Costs of Recruitment

The new Cambridge recruitment start-up IBEX Resources Limited is presenting IBEX Logic, which it claims reduces the cost of the recruitment process. The company deals with vacancies predominantly from Technology companies throughout the United Kingdom

Cambridge. 26 Nov 2007. --"Have you ever stopped to wonder how much recruitment fees are costing your organisation?" asks IBEX's founder David Wood and continues: "For larger corporates this can be hundreds of thousands of pounds; and for the SME marketplace several thousands of pounds per year!"  Whichever way you look at it, recruitment fees are generally a lot of money and impact heavily on the bottom line!

IBEX Resources Limited believe they have the solution!  The idea of a true “value for money” proposition first came to IBEX’s founder, David Wood, a few months back.  “We looked at different ways of providing the ultimate solution for companies who recruit.  After looking at various methodologies, we have settled on what we have called IBEX Logic.”

IBEX Logic is an innovative recruitment process.  The client’s vacancy is discussed at length with an IBEX Consultant, so that he or she has a thorough understanding of the requirements.  That vacancy is then worked on by IBEX for 2 weeks (14 days).  During that 2 week period, a shortlist of candidates is provided to the client for them to make direct contact with the candidates.  David Wood added: "In general, candidates prefer to speak directly to the potential employer, and not go through the recruitment agent. And we believe that the client also prefers this direct approach!"

Now, those authors' great works will be accessible to everyone around the world, as the University Complutense of Madrid becomes the first Spanish-language library to join the Google Books Library Project. Book lovers and researchers from Australia to Argentina, and South Africa to Spain, will be able to find out whether, as Cervantes wrote, "the pen is the tongue of the mind," or as Calderón claimed, "life is but a dream."

Working together, Google and the University Complutense of Madrid will digitise the university's hundreds of thousands of public domain works, so that anyone, at anytime will be able to view, browse, read, and even download the full texts from the library's historic and special collections. The library of the Complutense University of Madrid is the largest university library in Spain.

"Out of copyright books previously only available to people with access to Madrid's Complutense University Library, or the money to travel, will now be accessible to everyone with an Internet connection, wherever they live," said Carlos Berzosa, Chancellor of the Complutense University of Madrid. "We are quite literally opening our library to the world. The opportunities for education are phenomenal and we are delighted to be working with Google on this project."

Google学术搜索推出中文版

SBC Editorial-Office's picture

Submitted by SBC Editorial-Office on Thu, 2006-06-29 14:37.

Google

Applicants aged 35 and over may apply if they began their academic studies at a later age than usual or have had a career change/break. Applicants must normally hold a degree from a UK higher education institution, and those registered for a doctorate may apply only if they have submitted their doctoral thesis by the closing date.

The scheme operates on a pattern of joint support whereby the Leverhulme Trust contributes 50% of the Fellow's total salary costs up to an annual limit of £20,000, and the host institution matches this. Research expenses of up to £5000 a year are also available.
