IKEA to open 4 new outlets by 2012 in Portugal

IKEA (Sweden) is to invest some €200 million through to 2012 expanding its presence in Portugal. Building on the success of its flagship store in Alfragide, IKEA plans four new outlets for Lisbon and Oporto. It is also considering the possibility of establishing an Iberian distribution centre, says André de Wit Iberian peninsula local director. He said break-even would be attained three years after the opening of the first outlet,  an initial investment of some €60 million. He said apart from the new outlet  at Matosinhos (North), to be opened in spring 2007, IKEA will roll out further outlets in the greater Lisbon and greater Oporto areas at a cost of €50 million per unit. Anders Dahlvig, IKEA chairman and CEO said the Swedish group has some €1 billion to invest in the Iberian Peninsular through to 2010. The first Portugal outlet at Alfragide opened in June 2004 and current total sales stand at €80 million. The group initially forecast consolidated sales of €100 million by tax year end 2007 but it has now revised its assessment and will achieve this by August 2006. The Lisbon outlet has so far welcomed 2.5 million customers from around the country. The group has 20 Portuguese suppliers from which it acquired €64 million worth of goods over the past 12 months.

Após o sucesso da sua loja em Alfragide, o IKEA está a planear 4 novos outlets para Lisboa e para o Porto. Está também a considerar a possibilidade do estabelecimento de um centro de distribuição ibérico, diz André de Wit, director local ibérico. Estão planeados investimentos de até 1 bilião de euros até ao final de 2010.  O primeiro outlet em Portugal ( Alfragide) abriu em Junho de 2004 e as vendas rondam os 80 milhões de euros. Este outlet terá recebido 2,5 milhões de clientes, e tem 20 fornecedores portugueses, dos quais foram fornecidos produtos na quantia de 64 milhões de euros nos passados 12 meses.
