The Hackney Empire Theatre is a registered charity and leading London theatre, committed to accessibility and diversity for all. Being based in the heart of one of the 5 London host boroughs for the London 2012 Olympics, the coming years look set to be some of the most exciting yet for both the Theatre and our Education scheme.

We are looking to work in partnership with business to achieve mutual objectives in line with individual companies CSR requirements to make the next 6 years and beyond some of the most successful yet.

The Hackney Empire dedicated to the widest range of popular entertainment which is affordable and accessible to diverse communities. It supports and nurtures new talent and champions the achievements of local young people to enable them to make positive choices about the directions their lives should take.

The variety of the programme is reflected in the diversity of the audiences we reach. As well as having strong local support in the Hackney community, the theatre also serves the whole of London and beyond as a first class entertainment venue.

In addition; We have been running an education programme for 11 years now. This is a broad based programme working with young people across the board, at primary, secondary and tertiary level and those who have been excluded from school and/or are hard to reach. Reflective of the East London area, 86% of the young people we work with come from ethnic minority communities. One of the main streams of our education programme has been out-of-school provision, in particular, holiday projects for young people. These usually involve placing participants in a professional setting with teaching and mentoring from leading professional artists and facilitators from the fields of music, dance, comedy, musical theatre, song-making and drama. Through the arts, we engage young people in positive activities that enhance their lives culturally and emotionally and give them a sense of achievement and well being.

At the end of each of our projects, there is some kind of performance or exhibition. These include, Artist Development Programme 2 (ADP2), ADP3, ADP4, ADP5, Peter and the Wolf: The Epilogue. All of these are available to watch either on video, or DVD.

The young people who are involved in ADP projects are supported for the rest of the year by the team here, and we actively seek other opportunities for showcasing their work. ADP5 has been performed in various different guises four times since October, and was showcased at the Festival of Youth Arts in May 2006.
