The upcoming CeBIT event will feature for the first time an exhibition section devoted to transponder technology.

The upcoming computer trade fair CeBIT in Hanover, Germany, will for the first time feature an "Auto ID/RFID" exhibition section. The accompanying "CeBIT Forum RFID," which will take place from March 9 through 15 in Hall 6 at Stand G48, is destined to become the main hub for the exchange of ideas and opinions with experts from the realms of science and industry. The forum will be organized by GS1 Germany in conjunction with Deutsche Messe AG and the German Association for Information Technology, Telecommunications and New Media (Bitkom).

What this focused event within the event will have to offer is lectures by experts, case studies and panel discussions on such diverse topics as, for example, solution scenarios or solutions that have already been implemented in areas ranging from trade logistics, say, to aircraft design. The object of the "CeBIT Forum RFID" was "to communicate expertise and current trends in a compact manner while at the same time offering a basis for increased interaction between the providers of hardware and software on the one hand, and those who utilize RFID applications on the other," it says in a press release by the organizers.

Every day of the forum will be dedicated to a particular facet of the overall topic such as "the future of shopping," "mobility and traffic" or "RFID and logistics." In addition, the forum is designed to be a place where consumer and data protection issues as well as the implications arising from the application of RFID technologies can be discussed openly and fruitfully. At an enormous CeBIT stand of 2,800 square meters the retail chain Metro Group will be presenting the "Internet of Things," a watchword for the deployment of RFID networks; besides engaging together with the representatives of other companies, scientists and politicians in the lively discussions likely to take place at the forum.
